DEI Consultation Service for Multimedia-based Learning Module Development

Innovative Strategies for C21

NYU Langone Medical Center recognizes the need to develop a transformational Curriculum for the 21st Century (C21) aspart of its tripartite strategy to achieve world-class medical educational excellence. For C21 to be successful, our faculty must apply innovative instructional strategies, teach in the ambulatory setting, and use new technologies such as simulation and asynchronous computer-assisted instruction (CAI).

As a first step to help scale CAI-related educational needs, the Division of Educational Informatics has created a medical education consulting service to assist faculty in developing effective multimedia-based learning modules which optimize learning outcomes and facilitate the teaching experience.

DEI provides consulting services in:

Creating Online Learning Modules using LAMS

LAMS (Learning Activity Management System) is a web-based tool for designing, managing and delivering a sequence of learning activities. The composition of these sequences includes both on and offline activities, and support both individual and collaborative work. LAMS’ authoring tools enable you to create an online learning sequence including pre & post-test, lecture (with audiovisual materials), feedback survey, group-based activities, etc. LAMS also provides you with real-time student monitoring and tracking facilities.

If you have an idea or need for an online learning module and would like DEI’s support in creating a LAMS module, please follow the below steps:

  1. Click here to download the DEI Project Request Form.
  2. Complete the form and email it to Sabrina Lee, DEI Project Manager at sabrina.lee@nyumc.org
  3. Following review of your request, Ms. Lee will contact you to arrange a meeting with Dr. Marc Triola, Division Director, and So-Young Oh, DEI’s Instructional Media Specialist, to brainstorm more about your ideas such as learning goals & objectives, target audience, and implementation.
  4. DEI will work with the Ehrman Medical Library to identify existing resources for your topic.
  5. We will meet again to determine instructional strategies, module storyboard and project timeline.
  6. DEI will support you to create your LAMS module including necessary multimedia contents (e.g., 2D & 3D graphics, videos, etc.)
  7. If necessary, DEI and the Library will assist you to publish the LAMS module (e.g., MedEdPORTAL).

DEI can offer guidance regarding best practices and using the LAMS tool, and can offer video and graphic resources as needed.
